MY WORST BOWLING GAME EVERRR. Had team bowling as a de-stressing activity last Friday. Our team won, thanks to the regular bowlers, Gummy, MarkG and Do and the amazing first timers Soul and Falsetto Jen. And me? Loser score. Haha! Gahd. I have not bowled in... has it been that long? More than five years. Anyway, yuck. Since I began bowling, this is like my lowest score everrr. So embarrassing. I even did worse than the first timers! To think when I was in college, I was bowling every week. Oh yes, I was part of the bowling club in college. That was when we were still required to have one "arts" and "sports" org each. And bowling was the only sport I could tolerate (I am so not athletic!). Even my family got into it. We had lots of fun! It was the perfect way to unwind --- throw all your stress on the bowling ball and the pins, cheer for everyone and just have a good laugh with all the bloopers and booboos! I am sure this will not be the last of the CS Super Bowl Tourney! The other team is sure to ask for a rematch and yes, I have to avenge my score and redeem myself. Haha! And since I have not had exercise in the longest time, my body ached over the weekend. I had forgotten that bowling can be quite tiring! My body was painful in the left side (I didn't take pain killers beforehand, unlike some of my officemates) and I was complaining all throughout the weekend, which prompted my dad and my friends to suggest I better take up some sort of activity that gets me to move. Haha. Yes, I am a sedentary one. No physical sport or activity or anything! Yuck. I better do something, I can feel my posture getting bad and my tummy and arms getting flabby! October just zoomed by! I can't quite get over it, but now that it's November (and the last day of my leave), I think it will be pretty steady until... the next big thing that happens. Really! I'm looking forward to just sitting back and relaxing until the end of the year --- well, save for the Christmas rush. But that's always a good rush! October Highlights: Team Building in Bataan My officemates and I made the trip to Bataan to have our official team building and to unwind, too! From our house in the hills in the East, we left at 545am and made it to Bataan way out North at about 9a plus? It's a gorgeous farm of one of our supers' family. It has an infinity pool and another pool but we didn't get to go there. It was a good team building activity which was fun and productive and I hope, solidified our team more. :)   Tessa's 21st! Jen (coordinating with Tessa's friends and family) prepared a nail sparty to celebrate Tessa's *ahem* 21st at Nailaholics in Megamall. Fun that she was suprised! Got to catch up with old friends from college! And it was a treat to relax after the very busy days at work. So funny that it was like a bridal shower too that we had to explain our gifts, but I'm glad the staff (and other clients!) accommodated us with that! (Even the piped-in music!)   CS does GK As part of our community day, our team elected to help in one of Gawad Kalinga's communities in Tanay, Rizal. I think this was the first time for most to go and participate in GK's activities. Our team was assigned a house to paint (my first time to paint a house too!) and afterwards, we had a session with one of the GK residents. It was a very interesting and enlightening experience for all. :) Looking at the FB pics reminds me --- there are good Samaritans out there! Aside from people volunteering, little things such as a complete stranger offering us a ride to the GK site and everyone pitching in to help. Really GMH. Restores faith in people. :)   During and After! That's our lovely Citrus and Blue House! Indochina Trip! Deserves a separate entry on its own. I loved our trip --- going to Cambodia was definitely the highlight (Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Phrom), although Vietnam and Thailand were pretty memorable and interesting too. I hit my lower back and right elbow pretty bad. Good thing nothing really acted up while on the trip, but my back hurts on occasion. I sincerely hope it will go away! P.P.S. Oh my I am so tired, my throat is sore, but Maroon 5 last night was such a blast! The girls from work and I had so much fun! Until today, we were on such a high in the office, shrieking every time we remembered Adam Levine (and James Valentine for Crissy). Squee! When people ask about a favorite and most memorable moment during the concert, I always say it was during She Will Be Loved. When Adam (yes, close) came to the line, "I want to make you feel beautiful...", he stopped, the band stopped, the lights were off save for a spotlight on Adam. The whole Araneta was screaming (with kilig!) and Adam was just smiling. Siiigh. I've been reliving that moment thanks to Karina and Casey! Loved that part. Loooved also Won't Go Home without you (the energy was amazing) and so on... I was glad they sang This Love and Sunday Morning too (but no Must Get Out). Fun ever (two concerts in less than a week!), but now back to real life (and saving up again! I mean, when is this guy ever coming here?!).

 Funnily enough, I noticed I like to write about my Hearts' Day (or SAD - Single Awareness Day, from an article in Time which my dad made me read! Gah) in my blog. No matter how uneventful it may be (and yes, the most eventful one was in college yet, in our very "out of the box" V-Day. I don't think any V-Day can top that one). In any case, Valentine's Day was fairly boring. I was in the office from 8am until about 10pm. When I arrived, though, there were roses from my boss for all the girls and chocolates for the boys. Loved how all the flowers made the office look! We also got cupcakes from the office.My pre-Valentine-slash-de-stress weekend was spent with Tessa. We watched 27 Dresses, quite the aww worthy movie. My favorite line from the movie is "I feel like I just found out that my favorite love song was written about a sandwich." Haha I swear, I really laughed a lot when I heard it and until now I remember it. Yes, I am shallow like that. Had so much fun de-stressing with a massage and just going around, chatting, eating, coffee. We were both so stressed, so it was a nice break. :)

long weekends (and sembreaks!) are love... Well, sometimes. Going back to the real world can be a shock, but it's all good still. Work and school's interesting as well. My long weekend was a break, so I'm looking forward to the next long weekend. This workweek is pretty much a "Monday-Friday" feeling since it's only two days. Friday was Halloween at work, so I didn't get much work done. Hehe. Then dinner afterwards at TOSH and a slight traumatic thing for me (and possibly, P) that has caused me to drive slower than usual and not pass a certain way going home (truly!). Anyway, I learned a lot last Friday night. Good thing my family and friends were all supportive and helpful. And because of that, I slept in the whole Saturday. Hehe wah. Sunday was with my college friends. It was Chesca's first birthday at Pancake. Nice to catch up with Anch and Tet (I missed everyone else, but I'm glad Gwennie's here already!). Hee. I miss catching up with them. Glad for the opportunity, plus getting to see my godchildren. They're so big already, especially Marco! Cutie! :) Monday saw me in Starbucks working on our homework. Hee my groupmates and I agree our Stat group is our favorite group. We spend always spend at least four hours (longest was ten hours) together, working on our killer homework. Even if we're exhausted with the workload, we always end up bugging each other and it's not as stressful. We always say we're overbonded. Not to mention, all the baristas know us, I think, as we camp out there for hours. I'm going to miss them next term. :( Labels: friends

friday madness! The past two Fridays have been fun! Last Friday, during our lunch break, we headed off for lunch at Tokyo Tokyo (thanks to Karina's BPI promo) and then Power Station! While Crissy, Karina, Mity and Sol hit the games, Malor and I joined Migs doing videoke. Rather, we watched Migs do videoke. Hehe. Then we had a Neoprint done. What is high school and college?! Kulit.  Yesterday, it was AloHalloween! Actually, it was our office's annual trick or treat for the employee's kids... and my first Halloween! Every year, I always plot my vacation leave around this time, but this year... well. Anyway, our unit's theme was the beach (or Boracay as the other units called it) and it was so fun to dress up our office and ourselves! I don't think I got much work done yesterday with all the people and kids going in and out our floor so my friends and I decided to go around the different floors. Wow, talk about going all out with the other floors! They really went to town with their scary haunted houses or mental hospitals. Yup, I don't think they got much work done yesterday either as I didn't receive any e-mail the whole afternoon and the other business units were too busy acting out their scary themes! Sunday afternoons, you can usually find me in Starbucks, with a bunch of similarly My groupmates and I like to meet in Starbucks. I guess it's because they don't really mind anyone staying there for such a long period of time, as long as we patronize their store. And we do! We buy coffee, pastries or sandwiches, water, internet access and so on. I've tried all their sandwiches to tide me over, my favorite being the Tuna Kani on Rye. :) I know it can be such a hassle - some other classmates have actually found it funny that we meet on Sundays, but we have such a good time! We end up talking about the most random stuff and bond over the silliest things. I've learned a lot from my groupmates - more than Stat or whatever school thing. So many things have changed in my life from when I last posted here. Goodness, I was caught up in a whirlwind of change and probably got the chance to slow down only today (mainly because it's after midterms - but I have exams again next week, my Stat book in front of me is a reminder and as for work because I went on OT yesterday). It's bound to pick up again tomorrow. Gah. I was able to de-stress with Tessa yesterday - massage, dinner, movie, salon (me for threading) - and I'm really feeling steady and mellow. I allowed myself that luxury after a stressful early morning class and late morning at work! Nothing better that meeting up with a really good friend to make me relax and realize that there's life beyond work and school. And so chatted the whole afternoon and night (even during the movie! Ahaha!) away because there's just so many things to talk about, rediscover about ourselves and think of what we hope to become in the future. Yes, "me" time for the two of us. On a lighter note, when I met Tessa in Starbucks, there were two guys in the next table, staring out and not speaking. Hard to explain, but they were facing Tessa's (and eventually my) table, not speaking at all! Just staring out to the driveway of the mall. So when I arrived and we started chattering away, I suppose we gave the two guys some amusement. Then they left. Without saying anything! So we were wondering, what/who were they waiting for?! It was just so strange, two guys with a venti Frap between them but not speaking, texting or anything! Weird. We came up with the funniest scenarios between the two of them, the best line and scenario coming from Tessa, Guy 1 offers to split the Frap as a peace offering and Guy 2 replies, "Pare, I'm too hurt." Ahahaha! * * * I got some chika about a good friend which I don't know if it will help or not. Complicated news... but I feel like it's my obligation to tell. Part of me thinks that it will make things more awkward, but another part is going, she deserves to know. Argh so confusing!

Speaking of coffee, there's a thread in PinoyExchange, asking if you have a coffee name. That thought never occurred to me! I always give my real nickname - have to spell it out to the barista just in case they look pretty baffled. Or if they don't ask, I get surprising and strange misspellings of my name, such as "Mondge" which I got one time. I guess I would find it funny giving other names; I might not realize that that coffee is meant for me! Although one time, Tessa, Corinne and I gave different names for fun. Tessa was Joni, Corinne was Toni and I was Melbs - there's a special *ahem* story why each name was such. Hahaha fun memories of the Prom B girls! Labels: friends, memories, random

Yay - super long overdue story about Jay and Mims' wedding! I was only able to get the pics today and finally I can post this. I'm also about to send out the pics to my friends. :) It was Jay and Mims' wedding last April 28. Mass was held at Christ the King. As I expected, I cried but during the wedding march. The doors of the church opened, Mims stepped in through a haze of butterflies and petals to Kyla's "Beautiful Days". Siiiigh. Super touching. It was such a fun wedding! At the church, I was seated between Crissy and Pat (Mel's bf) and all around us were cameras, bags (Mel and P left their bags with us since their ento dresses came along with pouches) and other stuff. Sofie, Kerfuffs, Sly and Ate She joined us soon after. :) Thank goodness we were able to convoy together to the reception which was at Wack Wack (we all had no idea where it was) - and arriving there, it was annoying that our convoy was made to drive around and drop off our passengers kuno - hello, all the drivers (Ate She, Kathy, me, Pat) were all dressed up, do we look like we were there to drop off people?! We were stuck in the traffic jam at the reception hall. Hmph. Our parking was sooo far. The reception was fun, with our table being the last ever even if it was near the buffet, thus last to be photographed and last to get to the buffet and lechon. Huhuhu... But we were all hungry and the appetizers (sushi and dimsum) on the table were not enough, we came up with a plan: each of us at the table would discreetly go by pairs (or so) to the salad station then the soup station while the program and picture-taking was going on. O di ba? We were successful ha! We weren't cheating, technically because we never went near the main course or dessert. The beauty of the reception hall was that it was very spacious and the buffet table was not jam packed, as earlier envisioned by P and I (we had been worrying about that for days, ready to elbow anyone in our pretty dresses). By the time we had our picture taken, our table was covered with our leftover salad plates and soup bowls. Hee.  I loved the food and the buffet set up, I cannot emphasize enough how organized it was so that there was no waiting or lining up or lack of food. I was happy to report to Mims that P and I were able to eat well (she knows P and I love to eat and have huge appetites). Loved the cake by Alex Franco! Too bad I don't have a picture of the cake - it was very, very pretty and delicious. We obviously loved the other desserts too.The program was okay... there was the dreaded bouquet thing, which Sofie got. Mims also got to sing (super talented girl)! Later on, we spent the night camwhoring (pang Friendster! Haha, it's such a rare occasion to have us all dressed and made up like that), making kulit the newlyweds and emoting at the chocolate fountain. Super fun! I miss those people talaga. :( But I was glad to be there. Such a lovely wedding, even if there was a huge guest list, Mims and Jay pulled it off to have such an intimate feel to it.

My friend Gwennie is getting married in December and since she's not based in Manila, she has a wedding coordinator. Although she can come to Manila every so often only, Gwennie tries to squeeze in some wedding events. So for her visit this May-June, she mentioned that she'd be going to wedding fairs. And with my current state right now, I happily agreed to tag along. We went to a wedding fair last Saturday at the Fort. It was going to be my first wedding fair! And ooh I was overwhelmed with all the choices for photographers, caterers, venues, invitations, gowns, make up artists, rings and so on that after an hour plus or so, I was actually relieved when Gwennie suggested we sit down for water. I was so exhausted, but it was fun! I actually picked out my invitations, theme, motif and cute ideas for the reception. Hahaha I realized I just like planning the production, but not necessarily going through with it. And I picked my invitation out before Gwennie did (although Gwennie, I know what you like and I think you're sort of leaning towards a certain printer?). Oh, some random stuff about that wedding fair - if you're a soon-to-wed, you get to wear a name tag with a red lanyard while if your a friend-o-saurus (as what my brother calls me. You know, as opposed to a "bridezilla", the friend is a "friend-o-saurus"), your name tag has a black lanyard. Not that I think they need to define who's about to get married or not, brides-to-be have this certain glow about them, while the rest don't. I mean, even if Gwennie wasn't wearing her name tag, she was the one being handed flyers about various wedding services and being interviewed when and where was the wedding. How can they tell?! Or is it because I have a bitter-bitteran aura?! Hahaha! Yesterday, we hit another wedding fair in Megamall, this time with Tessa and Ange. We didn't stay that long because our main concern was to look for invites, rings and souvenirs, which the wedding fair in Mega didn't have as much as the one in the Fort (mostly photographers), although we were able to check out Gwennie's cake supplier. We then went to a wedding showroom in Edsa Shang for the wedding invites. It's fun, all these wedding preps with and for Gwennie, with such an overload of ideas! And it's also fun and interesting to imagine how one might go through the motions when that time comes, considering so much options are available (can you imagine all the kinds of cuisine and gimmicks possible? You can even have a dessert buffet! I can't even begin to think about the food-tasting when it comes to that. Hehe). I never realized and appreciated how much real effort is put into that one big day and I am looking forward to Gwennie's big day later this year! Labels: friends

We held Mims' bridal shower last last weekend. Super fun! It was another Todo Na 'To, one year after. Overnight at a hotel with girl bonding! All girls present (me, P, Mims, Kathy, Sofie, Candy) except for Mel, no boys allowed. That crazy weekend in bullets: >Hotel was okay... they messed up our reservation though which was such a hassle since we needed a room asap since Sofs came from graveyard. Poor girl. We were there by 1p but got to the room by 4p+ yet! Annoying because we called in to reserve Wednesday yet. First choice hotel gave us a reference number for any concern with our reservations. > Surprised by the room: you would've thought a two bedroom suite would have two bathrooms. It only had one with two towels. I mean, I don't think that's enough but whatever. And they only offered two complimentary breakfasts. Again, first choice hotel offered four complimentary breakfasts. > Ahhh delivery is convenient talaga. We were all just lazy to go out of the room since it was pretty comfy in there with the air conditioner. > I'm not ever going to hear songs such as "Vulnerable", "Superman", "Lips of an Angel", "Reason for Breathing" or whatever in the same way again! Never never never. > I can live without blue pala and P is proud of me! Hahaha! > First time in a looong time I was up for 24 hours. Not bad but I was woozy already by the 23rd hour. Thank you MTV, but in the four hours you were on that early morning, never did I see or hear "Tulak ng Bibig" or "Turning My Safety Off". > Gained a new appreciation for the music video of "Love Team" by Itchyworms though. Since it was played twice! That, and "Over it" by Kat McPhee. > I like watching local TV with my friends! They're more updated than I am on what's happening on TV and celebrities. Friday's Feast One Hundred and Thirty-Four on a Saturday Appetizer What is your usual bedtime? Do you like that, or would you rather it be different? These days, my usual bedtime is 1-2a. Hehe due to texting marathons, TV, going online, journaling and reading. I kind of like it, because my mind is pretty active late at night. Soup When it comes to advice, do you give more or receive more? I'm embarrassed to say I receive more. I'm not unstable (oh, I hope not!), I just have very good friends and family who like to listen and give advice when I simply make kwento, even the most really boring and mundane stuff. Salad Describe a memorable meal you've had. Top of my head, anything to do with buffets. My family likes to eat a lot, especially during special occasions. I love to go the hotel interactive buffets because of the extensive choices, especially when it comes to dessert! Main Course Name a work of fiction that affected the way you think about something. Definitely Paolo Coelho's The Alchemist. I read it when I graduated from college and cried very hard - in fact, I can't read it without crying. Made me think of what going after one's dreams meant, but in this life, I wonder how that would work out. Okay, that's another story. Dessert What is your favorite type of fruit juice? Only apple juice. Not really a juice person, we hardly had juice at home. * * * Practically the whole day yesterday I spent hanging out (okay, that's a weird word to use in context to describe but it's true) at Patty's dad's wake in Della Strada. It was good to see P okay - I'm not quite sure usually how to act towards people in funerals or wakes, mainly because... I don't quite know how to handle grief. And good thing P noticed that since we got into talking about how surreal this whole experience was for her and yet she's okay since we talked about our normal stuff, punctuated with laughter and weird stuff. Anyway, we talked about how, is this our dry and unemotional side that's on right now? Since we've conditioned ourselves to be stoic almost always, was this being really insensitive right now? Because sometimes, emotion hits us at the most unexpected times and places. It was good to see she understood my point, since I had been feeling awkward. I don't know, I guess I really don't know how to express my sympathy except by being there. Which, I hope, counted. * * * On a lighter note, spending the whole day at the wake was interesting. We spent it eating! Lunch with a dessert of strawberries and cream (yummy, even if I'm not a strawberry fan! Loved the cream), coffee (omg, I have a new discovery: Nescafe 3-in-1! I like. P told me Val's favorite instant coffee is KDO. Hmm, must try. Yes, I still, still miss coffee) and taisan cupcake, this kuapao, the best siomais I've tried from Forbes, Krispy Kreme chocolate doughnut (sorely tempted to get the Cheesecake one, but I got shy), cold but still delicious Red Ribbon spaghetti, homemade chicken sandwiches (how do they get their white bread to taste like that?) and endless Coke. Wahh... so full. It was so fun when the people from the office came and we just spent the whole time eating, talking and laughing. Oh, and bonding with people I didn't quite expect to chat with, but it was all good. P and I walked around Della Strada too. I've only attended Mass there once and I think it was a funeral mass pa ages ago so I don't remember it much. I arrived early so I looked for the Adoration Chapel. Then in the afternoon P showed me a small chapel (room?) below the main church that they like. Simple and pretty. * * *

post post vday notes People have been asking me how I spent my Valentine's Day. It was at home, sleeping. It was my loneliest (as in, alone and not with friends) Vday ever, after the one in first year college which I spent, you guessed it, at home and asleep (but because we had a major project the day before). But it's okay. I dedicated that day to me (naks). The Friday following Valentine's, I went out and got a haircut - finally! But it's not short-short like what I was thinking of. Shoulder length... and it makes me look scrawnier than usual. Sigh. Like when my friend Mims saw me, she went, "O, pumayat ka mas lalo!". Oh dear, my brother was right in saying that, but honestly, I can't see it. Saturday - met up with Patty, Mel, Pat, Mims, Jay and Kathy for Patty's birthday dinner, post Vday hangout with the usual coffee afterwards. Ooh I miss my coffee, I've been away from it for a long time already. We had the usual kwentuhan and okray. Before dinner, we also went to Nail Tropics (we soooo love that place) for kikay girl bonding. Following weekend, watched Blue Repertory's High School Musical in Megamall. The theater was full of kids (not to mention toddlers and babies who would cry in the middle of the show!)! It was my first time to watch a play/musical in Megamall and I found it quite odd that people could bring popcorn. And it annoyed me that even if the tickets said the play would start at a certain time, people still came in 30 minutes after. Labels: friends, random, rant-rave

 Nothing more pleasurable than a slice of Triple Chocolate Mousse, coffee and a long conversation with a good friend. (Oh, wait, but another experience is coffee and Internet at the Makati Shang Lobby Lounge, as what I did once with Tessa, Angel and Raffy. I have never had such posh coffee! Ahaha, but that deserves another entry in itself.)A couple of weeks ago, Patty and I went out for coffee after watching her cousin's play in Miriam and sat down for three or so hours just talking about everything and nothing. We talked about life, work, plans, hopes, dreams, kerfuffles (well unfortunately, only mine, haha), other people (can't resist) and so on. Everything and nothing. We like to talk about stuff we've talked about before because we like to come up with new ideas and rethink our previous thoughts. It's always nice to do so. Talking like that - and with people who know me quite well - makes everything so new yet familiar, so distant yet near. Labels: friends

We always do that, so we've realized serious talks are quite rare, but it's okay because it happens too. And when it gets to the serious stuff, my friends are always there) and love like I've never been hurt (well, ngek, that's different).  I was up until about 5a, trying to figure out who I was with the whole day (I've been thinking about it for the past few days, ever since Jo emailed this to us) since I know I was with one of them (the celebrants) but I can't recall who. Goodness, old school picture! :) It just says in my planner in 2000 that it was a surprise birthday party and that it was a tiring day in school and Megamall before heading to Jo's place where it was held.Wahaha I still have braces there! Gwennie and Anna K both have short hair! I wonder why almost everyone's in slacks (I look grubby, as usual). This was a surprise in my email and I won't deny I got senti again (haha whenever I'm this senti, it prompts Gwennie to tell me I'm delikado again)! I asked for our EK pics as well (the one and only trip to EK). Now that's an interesting bunch of photos I can't wait to see.

I'm in an Internet cafe right now, waiting for Patty and dying of envy as I see my barkada's pictures last Christmas. Yes, I was unfortunately sick at the beginning of the year - happily not on January 1 (still believe in that whatever I do/feel/am on the first day of the year...), but on January 2 onwards. I do get sick that time of the year. Humored myself by taking pictures in Starbucks while waiting for an appointment. Picture was inspired by the barista my friends and I encountered a few weeks ago. I like to look at how the baristas write my name and the barista before had such pretty cursive. I regret not taking a picture of the her handwriting. I regretted it even more when I started eyeing Patty's drink and saw what was written on her cup: Pathy! Even Patty didn't notice until I pointed it out. Pathy, written in the big, beautiful script. That got us amused - how many ways can you spell "Patty" and would you be named "Pathy" anyway? Pathy is unusual enough. The one in the picture was written by a very nice barista who said I looked quite familiar and if I worked in the area. Yes, my friends and I used to pop over all the time, but I left them already. Sigh.Oh, awkward moment today. I ran into a classmate of mine. Now we're not close and in school, I didn't really talk to him and vice versa. And so running into him today? Awkward. I am so not the queen of small talk. He said hi and said I was getting thin and... I really didn't know what to say to that. Argh. You could tell. Awful. I've been thinking of cutting my hair short again. I miss having short hair - last time was in college yet? - and I'm a bit bored with my shoulder length hair. I don't really do anything with my hair and I miss the flippy shortness of it all. But then, longish hair looks nice especially in formal events since there are a lot of options for it - not that any stylist could do anything to my fine hair whenever I have hair and make up done for an event.
