Here I am again... with about seven hours of sleep, interrupted by a 4:15 am alarm I set just in case I decided to continue watching the opening rites of the Olympics. I don't think any local channel covered it live, so I settled for this Indian channel which had commentators explaining the significance of each of the symbols appearing in the tableau. I ended up sleeping at almost 3 am with Angola as the last country I saw. Per the papers today, the Philippines was set to be the 197th out of the 201 teams to march, it being that far into the Greek alphabet. Good thing I didn't stay up. Maybe they'll show it on a local channel. Replay!
So. The things you find on Friendster. I was trawling throughFriendster (something I haven't done lately because the site can get slooow but for some reason at 2 am today, it was pretty fast) when I saw/read disturbing (to me, anyway) stuff. Like, who's the baby in my friend's user pic? I know that's not her. Would it be so weird to come out of the blue and ask her ever so casually who that is? Or... is this guy friend really getting married this year? Gaah. Surprise, surprise. I wanted to ask if I'm invited *yaak, feeling* but then, never mind. I don't even know the girl! Wouldn't that be a bit funny? The things that you discover online. Surprising, no? I was a bit anti-Friendster before, but then again, it didn't hurt to try. I'm happy now that (cheesy) I've connected to long lost, way gone friends I never thought I would have the opportunity to get in touch with again. I mean it! I'm just looking for a few more long lost friends. It's corny, but when people ask me what's the best thing about the Internet, I always say Friendster (it's reached the height of popularity ages ago already) and e-mail. How cheesy but true.
